6 Days Marrakech Desert Tour via Merzouga : ittinerary

Day 1 : Marrakech → High Atlas Mountains → Ouarzazate

We start our adventure by leaving the busy streets of Marrakech behind and heading toward the High Atlas Mountains. The road winds through the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest in Morocco, where every turn brings a breathtaking view of valleys, Berber villages, and snow-capped peaks in winter. Along the way, we stop at the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO site and one of the most famous filming locations in Morocco (used in Gladiator and Game of Thrones). After exploring its mud-brick alleys, we continue to Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa,” where we’ll spend the night in a charming riad or hotel.

Day 2 : Ouarzazate → Agdz → Draa Valley → Zagora

After breakfast, we drive south through the Draa Valley, known for being Morocco’s longest valley and full of green palm groves, old kasbahs, and small villages that seem frozen in time. We’ll stop for photos and short walks to take in the scenery. By afternoon, we arrive in Zagora, the gateway to the desert. From here, a short camel trek takes you into the dunes just in time for a magical sunset. Dinner will be served at your desert camp, followed by music under the stars. Tonight, you’ll sleep in a comfortable tent surrounded by the silence of the Sahara.

day 3 : Zagora → Tazarine → Erfoud → Merzouga

Today we leave Zagora behind and drive deeper into the desert, passing through Tazarine and Alnif, small towns known for fossils and desert landscapes. After a stop in Erfoud, famous for its dates and fossil workshops, we arrive in Merzouga, home of the towering Erg Chebbi dunes. In the late afternoon, your camel will carry you into the golden sands to watch the sun set over the horizon. At your luxury desert camp, enjoy mint tea on arrival, a traditional Berber dinner, and lively drumming around the campfire. Sleep under one of the clearest night skies in the world the Sahara sky.

day 4 : Explore Merzouga and the Sahara Desert

This day is dedicated to discovering the life and culture of the Sahara. After breakfast, we drive around the dunes to visit Khamlia village, where locals of Malian origin play spiritual Gnawa music. We’ll also meet nomadic families who still live in the desert and visit the seasonal Lake of Merzouga (if water is present, it becomes home to flamingos). You can also enjoy activities like quad biking, sandboarding, or buggy rides for more adventure. By evening, another camel ride takes you back into the dunes for sunset, followed by a second night in the desert camp with dinner, music, and the magic of the Sahara night

Day 5 : Merzouga → Todra Gorge → Boumalne Dades

Wake up early to catch a beautiful sunrise over the dunes before we leave Merzouga. On the way north, we stop at the Todra Gorge, a natural wonder with 300-meter cliffs carved by the Todra River. It’s a great place to stretch your legs, take photos, or simply enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. From here, we continue to the Dades Valley, famous for its dramatic rock formations and winding roads known as the “Monkey Fingers.” You’ll spend the night in a traditional guesthouse with stunning views of the valley and dinner served on site.

Day 6: Boumalne Dades → Ouarzazate → Marrakech

On the last day, we travel back to Marrakech along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. We’ll pass through the Valley of Roses (best known in spring for its pink blossoms) and stop again in Ouarzazate for optional visits to the film studios. After crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass once more, we arrive in Marrakech by evening, where your unforgettable 6 day Morocco desert adventure comes to an end.
