After breakfast, we’ll give Rabat the time it deserves before turning north. After breakfast, we’ll leave the blue lanes of Chefchaouen and travel south from the Rif Mountains towards Volubilis. Today we leave the old walls of Fez behind and point south, towards a completely different Morocco. After breakfast, our driver-guide will meet you at your riad and we’ll climb into the Middle Atlas, where the air becomes cooler and cedar forests replace the busy streets of the city. Around Ifrane and Azrou, we’ll make relaxed stops according to the day perhaps for a morning coffee, a walk beneath the cedars, or to watch the Barbary macaques that live in this mountain region. After Midelt, look out of the window because the landscape begins to change quickly. After a final breakfast in the Sahara, we’ll leave Erg Chebbi behind and travel towards Rissani, where desert life has been connected with trade for centuries. If our visit falls on Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday, we’ll take time to walk through the traditional souk, where people from surrounding communities still come to buy dates, spices, livestock and everyday goods. Even the famous area where donkeys and mules are left while their owners shop gives you a glimpse of a side of Morocco that feels far removed from the tourist centers. Rissani stands on the site of historic Sijilmassa, once an important point on trans-Saharan trading routes.

From here, we’ll travel west through the Tafilalt region, and you’ll begin to notice the Sahara changing around you. We’ll follow it towards Todra Gorge, where we’ll leave the vehicle for an easy walk beside the river beneath the immense rock walls.
