Itinerary: 3 Days Desert Tour From Marrakech

Day 1: Marrakech - High Atlas Mountains - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Dades Valley

Your 3 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech begins in the morning when we pick you up from your hotel or riad. Leaving Marrakech behind, we’ll travel towards the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, following the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the highest mountain road in Morocco at 2,260 metres. As always, we travel at a relaxed pace, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the changing landscapes, traditional Berber villages, and beautiful mountain views.

After around two hours, we’ll make our first stop in the small village of Ait Berka. This is one of our favourite places to take a short break, stretch your legs, enjoy a coffee, and use the restrooms before continuing into the mountains. From here, we’ll continue climbing towards the summit of Tizi n’Tichka Pass, where you’ll have time to admire one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in Morocco and capture some unforgettable photographs.

Our journey then takes us to the famous Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, one of Morocco’s most remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Together, we’ll explore its ancient streets, learn about its fascinating history, and discover why it has appeared in films such as Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and many international productions. After your visit, you’ll have free time to enjoy lunch at a local restaurant overlooking the kasbah.

In the afternoon, we’ll continue to Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco.” If you’d like to learn more about the movies filmed here, you can visit the famous Atlas Film Studios. This visit is completely optional, and the entrance fee is approximately €10 per person.

Before reaching Dades Valley, we’ll travel through the beautiful Valley of Roses, where the town of Kalaat M’Gouna is famous throughout Morocco for its rose gardens and locally made rose products. If time allows, we’ll stop for a short visit before continuing through the spectacular Dades Valley.

By early evening, we’ll arrive at your comfortable hotel, where you can relax, enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner, and prepare for another unforgettable day as we continue towards the golden dunes of the Erg Chebbi Desert.

Day 2: Dades Valley -Todra Gorge - Merzouga Desert

After enjoying a delicious homemade Moroccan breakfast, we’ll begin another beautiful day of our 3 Days Desert Tour from Marrakech. Our first stop is the famous Monkey Fingers rock formations in the Dades Valley, where nature has created some of the most unusual landscapes in southern Morocco. We’ll also stop at the panoramic viewpoint overlooking the winding Dades Valley, giving you plenty of time to admire the scenery and take memorable photos.

From here, we’ll continue towards Tinghir, a town whose name comes from the Amazigh language and means “the shoulder,” as it lies beside the Atlas Mountains. Before reaching the famous Todra Gorge, we’ll drive through the green Todra Valley, filled with palm trees, traditional villages, and small farms. Once we arrive at the gorge, you’ll have time to walk between its impressive cliffs, which rise more than 500 metres above the valley floor. It’s one of Morocco’s most spectacular natural attractions and a favourite destination for rock climbers from around the world.

Around midday, we’ll stop in Tinjdad, where you can enjoy lunch or simply relax with a coffee before continuing our journey towards the Sahara. Along the way, we can make an optional stop in Melaab, a small village known for its traditional desert clothing and handmade scarves. If you’d like to buy a souvenir, this is a good place to do so, although we usually recommend that a simple scarf is all you’ll need for your desert adventure.

By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in Merzouga, where our camel guides will be waiting to welcome you. About one hour before sunset, we’ll begin a peaceful camel ride across the golden Erg Chebbi dunes, while our team transfers your luggage to the camp by 4×4. If you prefer not to ride a camel, we’ll happily take you directly to the camp by 4×4 at no extra cost.

As the sun slowly disappears behind the dunes, we’ll continue to our Luxury Desert Camp, where you can relax in your private tent before enjoying a delicious Moroccan dinner. Later in the evening, we’d love for you to join us around the campfire for traditional Amazigh music, local stories, and a chance to learn more about life in the Sahara. Before going to bed, take a quiet walk across the dunes and admire the Milky Way stretching across the desert sky. For the most magical experience, we recommend waking up early the next morning to watch the unforgettable sunrise over the Erg Chebbi Desert.
