Itinerary: 4 Days Marrakech Desert Tour to Merzouga
Day 1: from Marrakech city - High Atlas - Telouet - Ait Ben Haddou - to Ouarzazate city
Around 8:00 AM, we’ll meet you at your hotel or riad in Marrakech and begin our 4 Days Marrakech Desert Tour to Erg Chebbi. As we leave the city behind, the scenery quickly changes into the beautiful High Atlas Mountains. We never like to rush this part of the journey because it’s one of our favourite drives in Morocco. After about two hours, we’ll stop for a short break where you can enjoy a fresh Moroccan mint tea, take some photos, or simply breathe in the mountain air before we continue.
Our road then climbs to the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, nearly 2,260 metres above sea level. Every season has its own beauty here. In winter, the mountain peaks are often covered with snow, while spring brings green valleys and colourful wildflowers. Instead of following the busy tourist route, we’ll take you towards Telouet, one of those places many visitors never discover. We’ll walk through the old kasbah together and share the story of the Glaoui family, who once controlled the caravan routes between Marrakech and the Sahara.
From Telouet Kasbah , we’ll follow the peaceful Ounila Valley, a road we always enjoy driving because every few kilometres the landscape changes. Small Amazigh villages, ancient kasbahs, green gardens, and red mountains create some of the most beautiful scenery in southern Morocco. By lunchtime, we’ll arrive at Ait Ben Haddou, where we’ll explore the famous UNESCO Kasbah together before helping you choose a local restaurant for lunch. If you’d like, we can also stop at the Atlas Film Studios or visit the historic Taourirt Kasbah in Ouarzazate before we take you to your hotel. After a relaxing evening and a good Moroccan dinner, we’ll be ready for another unforgettable day towards the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi.

Day 2: from Ouarzazate - Draa Valley - Nkob - to Merzouga Desert sahara
After a relaxing breakfast, we’ll continue our 4 Days Marrakech Desert Tour to Erg Chebbi, leaving Ouarzazate behind as we head towards the Sahara. Before long, we’ll arrive in the breathtaking Draa Valley, one of our favourite parts of southern Morocco. As we follow the valley, you’ll notice thousands of palm trees stretching for miles along the river, surrounded by traditional Amazigh villages and ancient kasbahs. This beautiful road has connected travellers and desert caravans for centuries, and today it’s one of the most scenic routes on our Morocco Desert Tours.
As our journey continues, we’ll cross the volcanic landscapes of the Anti-Atlas Mountains before arriving in the peaceful village of Nkob, famous for its many old kasbahs. This is the perfect place to slow down, enjoy a coffee or a traditional Moroccan lunch, and experience a quieter side of Morocco that many visitors never discover. We always enjoy sharing these hidden places because they show the authentic Morocco that lies beyond the main tourist attractions.
In the afternoon, we’ll continue towards the Sahara as the scenery slowly changes from rocky mountains to wide desert plains. Whenever we see the first golden dunes on the horizon, we know we’re almost home. Around one hour before sunset, we’ll arrive in Merzouga, where our camel guides will be waiting to welcome you. Together, we’ll ride across the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes while our team transfers your luggage to the camp by 4×4. If you prefer not to ride a camel, we’ll happily take you to the camp by 4×4, so everyone can enjoy the experience comfortably.
As the sun begins to disappear behind the dunes, we’ll arrive at our Luxury Desert Camp, where we’ll welcome you with a glass of fresh Moroccan mint tea. After you’ve settled into your private tent, you’ll have time to relax before we enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner together. Later, we’d love for you to join us around the campfire for Amazigh music, local stories, and conversations about life in the Sahara. Before going to bed, take a quiet walk across the dunes, look up at the stars, and enjoy the peaceful silence that makes our Marrakech Desert Tours so special. If the sky is clear, you may even spot a shooting star before waking early the next morning for one of the most unforgettable sunrises in Morocco.

Before leaving Merzouga, if you’d like a little more adventure, we can also arrange an optional quad biking experience across the dunes. Then we’ll begin the next part of our 4 Days Marrakech Desert Tour to Erg Chebbi, travelling through the historic town of Rissani, where the old desert caravans once stopped before crossing the Sahara. We’ll also pass through Erfoud, famous throughout Morocco for its ancient fossils and beautiful marble workshops.
As we continue north, the landscape changes once again. We’ll drive through the green Todra Valley, where thousands of palm trees line the river and small Amazigh villages still follow a traditional way of life. Whenever we arrive at Todra Gorge, we always like to take a short walk together between its impressive cliffs, rising more than 500 metres above the valley. It’s the perfect place to stretch your legs, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and take some unforgettable photos before we stop for lunch nearby.
In the afternoon, we’ll continue towards the beautiful Dades Valley, one of our favourite places on our Morocco Desert Tours. Before reaching your hotel, we’ll stop at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the famous winding road and the unique rock formations known as the Monkey Fingers. Day 4: from Dadès Valley - Roses Valley - Skoura - High Atlas - to Marrakech
After a relaxed Moroccan breakfast, we’ll begin the final day of our 4 Days Marrakech Desert Tour to Erg Chebbi. Before leaving the Dades Valley, we’ll enjoy a few last views of the beautiful mountains before continuing through the Valley of Roses, where thousands of Damask roses bloom every spring. We always enjoy this road because every village has its own character, and if you’re visiting during the rose season, you’ll discover local products made by the women of the valley, including rose water, soaps, and natural creams.
Our journey then continues to the peaceful palm oasis of Skoura, where we’ll visit the beautiful Amridil Kasbah, one of the best-preserved kasbahs in Morocco. As we walk through its traditional rooms and towers, we’ll share how families lived here many generations ago and why this kasbah became one of the symbols of southern Morocco. It’s one of those places that helps you understand the history behind the landscapes you’ve explored during our Morocco Desert Tours.
After lunch, we’ll cross the spectacular High Atlas Mountains one last time, stopping whenever you’d like to enjoy the views or take a few final photos. By late afternoon, we’ll arrive back in Marrakech, where we’ll drop you off at your hotel or riad. Is a 4 day desert tour better than a 3 day tour?
If you prefer to travel at a relaxed pace, then yes. Our 4 Days Marrakech Desert Tour to Erg Chebbi gives us more time to enjoy the journey, spend longer at the main attractions, and discover places such as Telouet Kasbah, the Draa Valley, and Amridil Kasbah without feeling rushed.
Why do you travel through Telouet instead of only using the main road?
We love showing our guests places that many travelers miss. The road through Telouet and the beautiful Ounila Valley is quieter, more authentic, and offers a wonderful introduction to Morocco’s history, traditional villages, and mountain scenery before reaching Ait Ben Haddou.
What makes the Merzouga Desert special?
The Merzouga Desert is home to the famous Erg Chebbi dunes, some of the highest sand dunes in Morocco. Their golden colours, peaceful atmosphere, and unforgettable sunsets make Merzouga one of the highlights of our Marrakech Desert Tours.
Is this tour suitable for families and older travelers?
Yes. This tour is suitable for couples, families, friends, and senior travelers. We travel at a comfortable pace with regular stops, and if anyone prefers not to ride a camel, we’ll arrange a comfortable 4×4 transfer to the desert camp.
Can we celebrate a birthday or honeymoon in the desert?
Of course. We’ve helped many couples celebrate honeymoons, birthdays, anniversaries, and even marriage proposals in the Sahara. If you’re celebrating something special, simply tell us before your trip, and we’ll do our best to make your evening even more memorable.
Which season is the best for this Morocco Desert Tour?
Our favourite time is between September and May, when the weather is ideal for sightseeing, camel trekking, and spending time in the Sahara. Spring brings green valleys and blooming roses, while autumn offers warm days and beautiful desert sunsets.
